Fishing
Mike is a keen angler and is more than happy to provide knowledge of local waters.
The area enjoys a reputation for fishing at its best. The famous Shebeen and Salmon Run stretches of the River Shannon are just a few minutes away. Lough Derg and numerous lakes, rivers and commercials are within a short drive. There is coarse, pike and game fishing in abundance. Large nets of bream, hybrids, roach, tench have recently been caught here.
All facilities including tackle store and bait fridges are available. If you require bait this can be arranged for you prior to your arrival by giving 24 hours notice.
Packed lunches are available and flasks filled free.
Golf
Portumna Golf Course The Portumna Golf Club is located on the Gort road, just outside the town.
Portumna is parkland course adorned with mature oak trees. It is one of the premier parkland courses in the West of Ireland and offers a good test of golf by any standard. Deer regularly emerge from the surrounding forest to graze beside the course and add a delightful dimension to the game of golf.
Within 20 minutes drive there are six 18 hole golf courses – Portumna, Loughrea, Ballinasloe, Birr, Curra, Nenagh.
